This is a speculative design for a high-tech camera module capable of storing twenty years of video data. The stereoscopic camera works together with a 3D display to show a live-stream with a delay of twenty years. This gives the uses the opportunity to look into the past and compare the 'now' with the 'then'. The camera module is connected to a small datacenter which stores all the data. Once twenty years have passed the data will be written over the old data.
In this project
Ibo Ibelings and I worked together in designing seven blueprints which could be used to build the installation. The blueprints are very rich in detail and cover everything from the camera module to the data center. The data center holds eight servers capable of storing 5400 terabytes of data each, summing up to a grand total of 43,200 terabytes of memory. This is needed to store the twenty years of 4k video data.
